User retention doesn’t get enough attention
There are three early problems in building a tech product:
Product Dev — Building the product you envisioned (finding devs, raising money, launching).
¶
Marketing — Getting a stream of attention (signups), from the right target users.
¶
User Retention — Keeping your hard-fought signups.
¶
Most startup advice focuses on #1 and #2.
¶
There’s not a lot of focus on #3. That’s a shame, because it’s as hard as the first two combined, and it’s where a lot of products die.
